NEW VIDEO | Not My Arms Makeup Challenge

Screen Shot 2016-07-10 at 12.09.56

Hey guys and gals! I just wanted to share with you all my most recent youtube video… My lovely friend (and fellow youtuber/blogger) Becky Vance aka. Project Becks and I had a massive filming day for both our channels recently. One of the videos we filmed was the “Not My Arms Makeup Challenge” and it was so much fun to do. The idea behind it is that my arms are kept behind my back, and becky pops her arms through the t-shirt I’m wearing and has to act as my arms while she does my makeup for a night out. Now, the whole video is a complete joke and we laughed so much so please remember that I’m not really that sarcastic and weird in real life haha (promise…) I nearly went blind a few times and I’m still amazed that I don’t have a black eye?! I would love it if you could head over and have a watch and check out Becky’s platforms while you’re there… The links all in the down bar on the video! If you find the video from this page, comment something involving the words “lights of luna” so i know where my little blog family are!!

PROM CHALLENGE | Dresses, Hair & Make up

Happy prom season everyone! This will be the most stressful but exciting time of your life so far but it is all worth it for the big day! In honour of prom season, I’m meeting the challenge by The Black Tux (A not so traditional tuxedo rental company – Go check them out, their clothing is so so nice, and their Instagram is on point!)  to re-live my prom planning days and style a look that I would wear to prom if I was going this year. So here it goes!

Prom dress hunting is by far the most vital part of the whole experience. I planned my whole look around my dress! My prom was in 2012 and this was my final look:

I went for a floor length, royal blue dress with knot front and beaded back details. The dress was open back with simple crossover straps and I absolutely loved it! I styled it with black embellished heels and a matching clutch. I finished the look with silver jewellery and I was ready to roll. With hair and make up, I found the look I wanted to achieve on Pinterest and then went to a hairdresser before doing my make up myself. Prom was amazing and and we all had the best time! Right, time for 2016 Demi to prepare for prom!

Step One: The Perfect Dress

Over the last few years, my faith in online shopping has grown rapidly so I decided to head over to some online shops to start my hunt for the perfect dress. I looked on Asos mainly because they have such a wide range of brands and prices to suit everyone. Asos actually ended up being the place where I found my perfect dress:

This Jarlo Petite Keyhole Maxi dress with rushed detailing stole my heart! I thought this dress was absolutely beautiful and I instantly fell in love with it. Being on the shorter side means that I usually need to buy petite clothes, especially trousers and more importantly, dresses. This dress is actually from the petite section on Asos which is perfect for me! If you’ve also fallen in love with this dress, find it here! Now we have or dress, lets style it.

Step Two: Shoes & Clutch

With this dress, I want to keep the look quite minimal and simple so the accessories don’t take away from how beautiful the dress itself is. In terms of colour, I would want to look for white heels and a matching clutch. For this, I went over to missguided because I know they have a lot of beautiful heels. I found 3 different options that would all work with the dress, depending on your personal style. They range from super simple, to a beautiful lace up detail:

Click to find the Barely There Strappy Heels, Four Strap Barely There Heels and Lace Up Barely There Heels. Personally, I would go with the Lace up ones because I prefer that style.

To go with the heels you need a matching clutch! Now it doesn’t have to be a perfect match, but I like to keep everything matching with shoes and bags, especially for events like prom. For a clutch, I ended up back on Asos and I found the dreamiest bag:

This Asos Metal Trim Clutch Bag would look great with the heels and dress because its the same colour as the shoes and has the same minimalistic style that Im looking for. This clutch also has a gold metal trim detail which brings me swiftly onto jewellery accessories. I decided on gold jewellery for this look so the hint of gold on the clutch makes everything match perfectly.

Step Three: Jewellery

Seeing as the dress is backless and elegant, I wanted to mirror this with the jewellery I choose. Im leaning towards a slight bohemian feel with this dress so I looked at Urban Outfitters for the perfect minimalistic boho bling:

I found this dainty Fine Chain Disc Bracelet which would look so beautiful and simple.I then also found this Twig Cuff Bracelet which I would wear around my upper arm. I looked at rings but then decided that some white flash tattoos could look really nice and would be something different for prom! Something like this, but more simple, from Pinterest:

I personally love the look of flash tattoos, especially in summer with a nice tan so I would love to try this with a prom look as something a bit different that not many people would think of doing.

Step Four: Make up

Pinterest is the number one place to find hair and make up inspiration without doubt. For make up, I created a board and then decided to trial a make up look myself. I filmed a brown smokey eye prom tutorial which you can find here. Here are a few images that I was inspired by:

Step Five: Hair

And last but not least, hair. I also made a board on Pinterest for hair inspiration and for this, I wanted to keep it quite natural looking. Here are a few ideas of how I would want it to look:

I think big natural waves would complete this look nicely. I think it really adds to the bohemian feel and is an easy style to create from home. Its also something that is manageable though the night and easy to fix up if it goes flat or too messy from grooving too hard!

So that is the final round up for my Prom 2016 Challenge! I hope this has helped some of you with your prom organising. Hopefully I’ve inspired some of you, whether thats finding the perfect dress, or learning how to organise your prom dress hunt, or how to accessorise your outfit! Also I hope the make up video was helpful to somebody too! Let me know what you thought of it in the comments and if you recreate the look, be sure to tag me on insta, that would be pretty damn cool!  Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post, I hope all of you have the time of your lives at prom this year!
